What a Blast in Art Class!

We had a blast this Month in Art Class! Students in Grades 1st began learning the basic foundations of drawing by drawing hippos, and students in 2nd Grade created bug collages. Both projects coincided with the classes focus in science and their field trip to the Cincinnati Zoo.

In 3rd Grade, students discovered the wonderful world of Warm and Cool colors as they created an abstract Koi Pond. We also read the book, “If I built a Car” by Chris Van Dusen and drew our own one-of-a-kind automobile. Students had a blast adding swimming pools and malls on wheels!

In 4th Grade, students began the study on Vincent Van Gogh’s famous art piece, “The Bed Room”. Students are recreating their verson of this work by drawing and clipping objects from magazines to create a collage. These are looking fantastic, but are not yet finished. Check in with our Art Gallery soon to see these pieces!

In 5th Grade, students took a big leap out of their comfort zone and stretched their imagination to draw a creative sandwich. We replaced hamburgers with cows, bacon with pigs, ketchup with ketchup bottles. This was such a fun project to work on, as well!

In 6th Grade, wow, where do I begin! We have worked our way through the foundations of drawing, created bicycle paintings out of old maps, drawn 1 pt and 2 pt perspectives, opitcal illusions and are currently working on a cross-hatched eagle. This group is definitley on a roll!

In 7th Grade, students are just as busy. We are currently working on one of the most talked about projects, blown ink art. During this assignment, students are given the artist freedom to blow ink through straws. What more fun could you have?

Finally in our 8th grade class, we truly have had the best time! These students spent the month working on the mural that will soon be hanging up in the middle school entrance. No, I have not included a picture of it. You will just have to stop by and see it in person for yourself! In addition to the mural, students have painted acrylic flowers, created animal collages using mod podge, magazines and are currently working on a pointillism collage using skittles.

Our Fun in Art has just begun! Please check out our Art Gallery periodically for updated art projects!
