5th Grade – Roald Dahl Day!

by / Tuesday, 17 November 2015 / Published in Uncategorized

For our first book report, my 5th grade class celebrated one of the world’s best storytellers, Roald Dahl. His humorous, fiction books have delighted readers for decades and our class was no exception. Some of the fantastic novels that were read include James and the Giant Peach, Matilda, The BFG, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
On the day the class presented their book reports, each student came dressed as a character from the book they chose. Ally came dressed as James from James and the Giant Peach. She even had a giant peach and brought plastic insects to represent the insect friends James meets in book. Both Ava and Leyna read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Ava made a great Willie Wonka, complete with green pants, a purple jacket, top hat and a cane! Leyna looked great as Charlie Bucket, the other main character from the book. They made quite a pair! Cassie made a wonderful Matilda with her long dark hair and blue dress. Presley was the “BFG” (The Big Friendly Giant). Being the tallest in the class, Presley fit the character perfect. She carried a suitcase and trumpet that the BFG used to carry and blow dreams with.
Another highlight of our day was when we visited the other elementary classes to share our book reports. The 4th grade received a real treat when we visited their room. Ava, “Willie Wonka”, brought everyone a small chocolate bar and said there was a special treat in one of them. Surprise! 4Th grader, Maddie, won the GOLDEN TICKET!

We had a great day celebrating a fantastic author. The girls really enjoyed making these characters come to life!
